Abortion
One of the major battlegrounds for this issue concerns the use of language. Instead of using words that accurately convey facts and positions, people tend to use vague terms that illicit emotional responses. For example, those who think abortion should be generally illegal typically refer to themselves as "pro-life," but many of these same people are in favor of the death penalty for certain convicted murderers. Correspondingly, those who think that abortion should be generally legal typically refer to themselves as "pro-choice," a phrase that can be used to create a positive feeling for just about any issue one could imagine.
